Deciding wardrobe for YOU
I am absolutely positively NOT a fashion blogger, or claim to be some fashion guru, but I do know what photographs well. I do know that wardrobe is a HUGE part of photography, whether we like it or not it does matter what you wear to your photo shoot. I’ve put together some things I think would photograph well, are stylish, and affordable. I always feel like the mom has the hardest time with her wardrobe, she’s usually the pickiest (I AM TOO, BELIEVE ME) but once you get your outfit picked out, its easy to build off of with the other members of the family. Don’t be afraid of pattern or color. If it were up to me, I’d wear black everyday. It’s slimming and I feel comfortable in that color, but when it’s time for pictures, I try to stay away from a lot of solid black. It just doesn’t photograph as well as simply floral, non-neon color, and something with some texture. I have taken all of the examples I have off of http://www.target.com/ and most of the dresses are under $40!!
I have not forgotten about my plus size girls out there!! I’m very passionate about plus sized fashion, because I, myself, am plus size and find it super hard sometimes to find things in my size that I love as much as the clothes in the “regular” XS-XL section. While Target in-store has a pretty sad plus size selection, their online selection is EXCELLENT and can be returned in stores. Extenuate what you love about yourself, if you like your legs, show them off, if you aren’t so jazzed on your stomach, picked a more flowy-type gown or something that cinches below the bust a flows down from there. Here’s a few of my faves!
A few styles that are really in this spring are of course floral, my personal favorite, cold-shoulders, off the shoulder, flowy, and maxi dresses. I personally love the maxi because I hate my legs BUT if you are a leg girl, by all means, show those bad boys off!! My favorite is a shorter flowy dress paired with gladiator sandals or flats. Also a nice ankle boot seriously goes with EVERYTHING. It’s important to be comfy. Most of my shoot locations are a little treacherous, high grass, woodsy, and not ideal for stilettos.
Accessorize, for the love of sweet baby Jesus, ACCESSORIZE!! It can be as simple as bracelets, a necklace, or it can be a floral crown, or a lace vest. Layers are everything! I know it is hard to layer in 90 degree heat sometimes but even a simple long necklace with your maxi dress give the images dimension.
